Learn to Play the Drums the Right Way – Three Easy Steps

When most people think about playing drums, they think about how complex and fast the drummers play. Contrary to popular belief, it is actually pretty easy and fun to learn how to play the drums when it is done the right way. In no time, this simple way of learning to drum will lead to performing those complicated looking techniques with absolute ease.

First and foremost, brand new drummers will want to figure out whether or not they want to play with a matched grip. A matched grip is when the drummer holds the sticks the same way in each hand, whereas a classical grip holds each stick uniquely. Matched grips have a tendency to make the drummer feel more in control, but it depends on the drummer.

Learn five basic rudiments of drumming. These are, in essence, building blocks for drumming and will later be used over and over again throughout playing. It is vital to know and play these rudiments well as they are the heart of many drum patterns. These should be practiced on a daily basis.

The third step is something that simply cannot be avoided: practice. It has been said many times before and will be said again: practice makes perfect. As mentioned earlier, it is necessary to practice rudiments for about half an hour a day or try practicing hand techniques on other days. In order to become a great drummer, one must have the time to practice and hit those milestones with great work.

Choosing the right fly-fishing outfit

The temptation is strong when you go to the Outdoors store to buy the best looking fly-fishing rod you see. However, you must resist the temptation if you want to have the best experience when you go fishing.
Beginners, Saltwater anglers and Traveling anglers need different tackle to one another. Beginners are advised to start with a rod and reel combination that will allow them to focus on their casting techniques. Graphite composite rods are great for beginners as they are forgiving compared to fiberglass, baron, bamboo, and other types of rods. Using a rod with leave will allow the beginner to enjoy the sport until he or she eventually picks up the nuances.

Power is the key feature for Saltwater anglers, so a strong rod and proper technique are required in this discipline of the sport. The fish tend to be larger and can put up a fight for an hour or more. Therefore, the rod needs to have enough power to last this distance. This is especially important if you intend to release the fish after you have caught it. If the fish is completely exhausted then your efforts to release will be in vain, as it will most probably die. This is where your technique comes in to ensure the fish reeled in without major harm.

For Traveling anglers, a fly-fishing set that can be broken down is essential. They can generally be dismantled into a four or five piece set and come with a hard case. If you do not own a hard case, please make sure you get one to keep the rod in good condition.

Buying the right fly-fishing outfit is not so difficult as you can see. All it takes is a little common sense and practical thinking.

New Dell laptop introduces wireless charging

While there’s nothing immediately obvious about the Dell Latitude Z that makes it unique, there is a rare first hidden inside; Wireless charging of the battery, no plugging in required. The wireless charging is an option though, and an expensive one at that. The special dock will cost around $200 and lining up the laptop on the dock to get it charging will take some getting used to.
The innovative system is somewhat similar to your electric toothbrush. A coil of wire is located on the bottom of the laptop, and another coil of wire is in the dock. Through induction, power is transferred when the two coils come in contact. Dell insists that charging the laptop this way is no slower than using standard plug-in power.

Apart from the industry-first wireless charging, the Latitude Z has wireless docking system which lets you connect to USB devices and an external monitor without plugging it in. Although the range of the wireless dock is only 12 feet, the technology behind it will only improve with time as will the wireless charging. The laptop also features a separate processor on its own motherboard, which gives the Latitude Z an instant-on mode with quick access to email, contact, calendars and a web browser. Dell claims that the low-power quick-boot could prolong battery life up to half a day or more.

The Latitude also comes with an SSD Hard Drive, ultra thin profile, a crisp screen and Smart Card reader which lets users simply swipe their cards over the palm rest to log in.

New Apple patent filing reveals plans for ten-finger multi-touch input device

Imagine a contoured touch-sensitive surface that lets you type, swipe, and tap using all ten of your fingers at once. Now imagine the ability to use fingers on both hands to twirl or stretch a 2-D document, like a photo. Is this a preview of what the iTablet can do? According to sources the patent application outlines in exhaustive detail how the multi-touch user interface will work and recognize all ten fingers. The system will also have the ability to determine whether you are actively typing or simply resting your fingers or palms on the input surface.

The proposed Apple system is not without precedence. First it was Star Trek and the touch screen inputs on the bridge, then there was the Microsoft surface, which was a touch screen tabletop that lets you type, tap, twirl and draw with all 10 fingers. However, the system was so bulky and cost too much to be able to deploy as a consumer product let alone a portable device. Although Apple’s patent filing is purely academic at this time, until of course we see a product with the stated features. The question is whether the product they are talking about is the much rumored iTablet. The system described seems like a perfect fit for a 10 inch touch screen tablet. Or this could also mean a touch screen iMac that eliminates mouse and keyboard altogether.

Disney offers free entry to 1 million volunteers

One million guests who complete a day of volunteer work will be treated to a free day’s admission at Disney World. The programme titled ‘Give a Day, Get a Disney Day’ will give certified volunteers a one-day ticket to any Disneyland park in Anaheim, California or Walt Disney World near Orlando, Fla next year.

Partnering HandsOn Network, Disney is attempting to connect people with projects and certify work done. The timely promotion aims to inspire one million people to volunteer in their communities , citing increased needs of non profits in the currently weak economy. The programme is also in line with President Obama’s national volunteering initiative.

The HandsOn Network has 70,000 affiliated agencies. Once a volunteer’s service is verified by HandsOn, they print out an online certificate which can be redeemed at a Disney park.

Kicking off the volunteer promotion last week Disney sent 1,000 volunteers, including employees from Disney and Southwest Airlines, to work on projects around the country. Volunteers must register online with Disney and be residents of the US, Canada or Puerto Rico to be eligible for the free admission. The work must be performed in 2010 and free admission is only granted upto December 15, 2010. Volunteers must be 18 or older to sign up for the programme, while work done by children aged 6-17 qualifies for a free ticket as if they are accompanied by an adult when volunteering. Any unused certificates would be donated to a charity desginated by Disney.
Duncan Dickson, teacher of theme park management at the University of Central Florida Rosen School of Hospitality Management, Orlando said the initiative was a very smart marketing move which would not only create a positive buzz for Disney for encouraging volunteerism, but also meant free publicity.

Lawn Mower Racing – How to Be Safe

With any kind of racing sport, safety should be the main concern. Racing lawn mowers, no matter how quirky it sounds, has become quite popular, but has also been considered dangerous.

Lawn mower racing authorities have now devoted safety resources for the sport, with cajoling manufacturers of protective equipment to constantly develop new and better gear.

New regulations order the use of ignition kill switch tether for racing lawn mowers. Connected to the kill switch of the vehicle and the racer’s wrist, the vehicle will involuntarily shut down if a crash occurs or the pilot falls off.

Lawn mower racing associations dictate the use of helmets for riders of all classes. Certain divisions and series may even be required specific helmet styles and ratings, while a full face helmet is highly recommended, even though not mentioned in the regulations. Make sure you check your helmet for safety foam and additional safety.

You clothing during lawn mower racing is absolutely important. Long pants and long sleeves are a must, and a tough material like denim or leather is a good choice. Gloves are also necessary if you are determined to win the race. Don a pair of mechanic’s gloves with a leather palm and make sure it fits you well. Your clothing and gloves will provide excellent protection during your lawn mower races.

Last, but not least, your footwear is also equally important. Racing boots come in various designs. Choose boots made for motocross racing. These will protect your feet, shins and calves.

Different Kinds of Trampoline Parts Available

Trampolines are enjoyed by everyone young and old. Children love trampolines and for this particular reason, trampoline parts must be chosen with extreme care. Trampolines are lots of fun and provide a great option for exercise as well. The main unit of the trampoline includes a steel/wooden frame with a strong fabric pulled across it over springs. A mat is used to further strengthen the base fabric, and this is what users bounce away on.

When purchasing trampoline parts from a store or via the Internet, it is important that you check the credibility of the manufacturer. Advertisements and offers are aplenty, but do not fall for them. Trampolines are like shoes, you would need to try it out before you decide on purchasing it. With trampolines do not compromise on quality. Go for the best on the market. If the frame has at least a 10-year warranty on it, then you can consider it for purchase. A number of manufacturers offer lifetime warranties on trampoline frames. Also take into consideration replacement offers on trampoline pads and mats.

Some purchases offer trampoline safety pads for free. Other parts you could purchase to enhance the safety of your new trampoline include trampoline nets, enclosures and cushions. Another item worth investing in is a trampoline cover. This will lengthen the lifespan of the trampoline. Other items you would need to purchase include a trampoline ladder, bounce boards, tents and even a baseball set.

50th Birthday Ideas – How to Celebrate a Landmark Occasion

Turning 50 is a landmark occasion in one’s life. A cause for celebration! Here are a few ideas to get you started.

A 50th birthday would be a great way to throw a ‘destination’ party. Research online, find cheap tickets to a fabulous beach or mountain range, and fly close family and friends for the celebration. International destination parties are fast becoming popular, and travel companies compete to find the best, most affordable and exciting packages for vacationing groups.

If you don’t want to go away, that’s fine. Pick your Dad’s favourite restaurant and invite his closest friends and family members. Talk to the restaurant and see what you can do to make the event more special. Hire a live band, run a slideshow of your dad, make speeches, etc. Another excellent option would be sending your parents away on a mini-vacation. Book them into a nearby luxury hotel, get them a suite, send up the masseuse and perhaps even throw a small party by the pool.

‘Wish fulfilment’ is another great way to celebrate a landmark event like turning 50. Think of something you or your parent always wanted to do or learn. Perhaps ride a bike, learn to paint or even hike. And top it all off with a small party. A dinner party or barbeque for close friends is yet another way to celebrate turning 50. Try to work in a fun theme, like an 80’s theme or even a luau. After all, you only turn 50 once in a lifetime!

No More Free Online Radio

One of the biggest names in free Internet radio, Last.fm, won’t be free for much longer––unless you’re lucky enough to live in the United States, the United Kingdom, or Germany, that is.  While Last.fm’s service will continue as is for these nations’ residents, Last.fm plans to change to a subscription-based service elsewhere.  The rate is expected to be about $3 US per month.

The announcement was made on Last.fm’s official blog by founder Richard Jones.  It was stated that the site plans to offer a free trial lasting 30 tracks before requiring users to pay the subscription fee.  There was a backlash from quite a few users who said they planned to stop using the service or who questioned why the online radio service would remain free for a certain subset of users; many felt it wasn’t fair for three countries to be subsidized by other users.  Manager Owen Parry responded to some of the concerns, stating that advertising would cover most of the costs for the subscription-free countries.

Last.fm is based out of London and currently boasts around 30 million users.  Visitors to the website use the service to stream online music that has been catered to their tastes.  They can also check out band biographies and music recommendations.  Last.fm boasts a collection of more than 7 million tracks and works with over a quarter million different artists and labels.
