McCadmium Anyone?

Recently McDonald’s recalled 12 million promotional glasses it had sold to customers. The “Shrek” drinking glasses were found to be cadmium tainted and therefore unsafe for human use. However, the interesting thing to not here is that the entire process was voluntary.

The glasses were actually within federal guidelines for cadmium. The initial testing by a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) approved lab gave the company the go ahead to use the glasses. However, McDonald’s later decided to recall these glasses because the CPSC was revising its standards. Under the new standards, the glasses would have been illegal, so in order to avoid any future embarrassment and, obviously, harm to its customers the company decided to take some pre-emptive action.

The company is giving a full refund to its customers and has put up information on its website as to how customers can go about getting it. It has also stated that other promotional items and toys given through Happy Meals are not subject to the callback.

Cadmium is a toxic metal that is also a known carcinogen. It can cause severe kidney problems as well as bone softening. In very young children, the substance can lead to a hindrance of brain development. The danger from the glasses would be from hand to mouth contact. As in, children touching the outside of the glass and then putting the unwashed hand in their mouth.

The recall has got many worried about other products that they have used or have in their collections. They are worried about what they have or could have been exposed to without their knowledge. The new standards have not been made official, but under them many promotional products could face a massive recall.

Fitness Shoes for Women - Stunning Tips to Select the Best Shoe

When buying a fitness shoe, it is important you take the time to choose one that works best for you. Remember, that it must be a shoe that reduces the stress usually put on the feet by a pair of shoes. The market is awash with fitness shoes, and the choices are many. This will only make it even more difficult to choose a pair for you.

Here are some fabulous tips you should take into account when scouting for a pair of fitness shoes:

The arch of your heel - this is one of the most important factors that you should take into consideration before buying a fitness shoe. The arch of your foot can be determined by a simple impression on a paper. First wet your foot and stamp it on a dry sheet of paper. If your feet are flat, then the full impression will appear on the paper. Ask the shop assistant, they will show you shoes that are made for different kinds of feet, be they flat feet or not.

The right shoes for arched feet - the sole of the shoe is especially important for those who have a high arch in their feet. The inner sole should provide comfortable cushioning, especially since you will be partaking in frequent workouts. Ensure that the shoe you select reduces the impact of the workout on your feet. Ensure that there is good air circulation within the shoe. This will keep your feet from getting heated up, and will also ensure that the shoe does not get damp inside.

Addiction Treatment at its best!

A very general definition of drug addiction is basically the point after which the patient has lost control to cease the use of the drug and completely depends on it as a factor that determines his satisfaction and survival.

And there’s no doubt that there also comes a point when the individual and his or her family can take it no more, and instead begin to look for a drug rehab center where the addict can let go of his insatiable desire for the drug.

There are several drug rehab centers that addicts and families can find in serene and secluded settings. However, the benefit of admitting the addict at a drug rehab center does not stop with serenity and its location but with the method of addiction treatment and its kind staff that have substantial experience in taking care of addicts as well.

Since no two addicts are the same, no drug rehab program can be the same either, so the center caters to each individual personally combining group and individual therapy, the support of the individual’s family as well as outdoor programs and finally, also ensuring that the individual is completely rehabilitated from his addiction in the aftercare phase.

So, if you are concerned about a family member, you can find several rehab centers that offer personalized treatment and make an appointment as soon as possible.

Picking the Best Charcoal Grills

Picking a charcoal grill can seem like tough work but it actually it is not as hard as it seems. It really boils down to knowing what your budget is and to what extent you are going to use it which is much like any other product you would like to buy.

Now since barbeques (or cookouts) are a tradition in the United States not only in its traditional form complete with sauces unique to a particular region, but also in the form of restaurants and so on and so forth, several types of grills are manufactured to accommodate the needs of different consumers. Of the many types available, charcoal grills are a popular choice among many customers even though there are controversies that question the apparent advantages of using one of these machines.

However, keeping all these factors in mind, here are a few steps that could help you in picking a charcoal grill that is just right for you and your family.

The first (and most important) tip is that if it has less moving parts, there are fewer chances of something going wrong. Most of these types of grills are simple ones, which are easy to maintain and use, while also making it easier to store away when not being used. Another factor that is important is its sturdiness which can be ascertained just by looking at it while most of the best grills are small grill grids, so that might be a good factor to look for.

Finally, if the grill has ‘equal heat distribution’ and a temperature setting adjustment switch as well as accessories (like cleaning pans and cooking utensils), then you can be sure that you have a got a good deal.

How to avoid getting seasick

Seasickness is caused due to the simple motion of ships. Also known as mal de mer in French, it normally occurs to travelers in a ship causing dizziness, vomiting and nausea. This condition is also known as motion sickness. In normal conditions, the inner ear (which is responsible for balance) works with the eyes to tell your brain that you are standing on your two feet. However, when on a ship, there is a conflict between the two, where the inner ear tells the brain that your body is moving whereas the eyes tell the brain differently. This is why seasickness occurs.

Even though new technologies in shipbuilding that deploy stabilizers to reduce the motion effect of the craft, some people still get affected by seasickness. So it is advisable that a mega-liner ship is the best option for first time cruisers to avoid falling seasick.

Here are some tips to avoid seasickness:

1. Drink less liquid and eat less spicy food. It is better to eat solid food rather than to have a slushy stomach with exotic drinks if you are prone to seasickness.
2. Rather than resting in closed spaces (like your room) spend some time in the open areas of the ship, which can slow down seasickness symptoms.
3. Opt for preventative medication. Consulting your doctor for medicine such as Scopolamine, Dramamine, and Bonine can help prevent seasickness.
4. An acupressure wristband commonly known as Sea band, which applies constant pressure to the P6 (Nei-Kuan) acupressure point between the two central tendons on the wrist, can help prevent seasickness.
5. Finally, divert your thoughts, get some fresh air, and avoid reading, as it is important to prevent the conflict between your eyes and the inner ear, which leads to seasickness on a moving ship.

Should You Use At-Home Whitening Kits?

People want to have a bright smile — this signifies a warm spirit and a winning personality. This has led to the rise in popularity of at-home tooth whitening kits. Retailing for $10 to $100, these kits allow people to perform cosmetic dentistry on themselves by using bleaching elements such as peroxide to whiten their teeth.

But is this the safest option available? In many cases it isn’t — people can do damage to their teeth by leaving products on too long or using them too often. It’s better to consult with professionals such as cosmetic dentists, who can look at your teeth and develop a long-term plan that addresses both the health and beauty of your smile. In some cases, additional items like porcelain veneers are the best bet for adding glamour to a smile while correcting dental problems. Only a trained professional can determine what the best choice of action is for long-term dental health.

Coffee and Cellulite

Regardless of a woman’s age, she is sure to have had some cellulite during her lifetime. Women have been searching for a solution to this problem for years. The only proven way to help this skin condition is by eating a healthy diet and sticking to a great exercise program. The main reason that cellulite is so unpleasant-looking is that after the fat cells store themselves under your skin, they push their way through your skin which causes the skin to be dimply and unsightly.

Women have come to believe that drinking coffee provides the same antioxidants that are in black tea and the same components found in fruits and vegetables. Drinking too much coffee might cause cellulite to build up into deposits, which will bring upon the opposite effect of what they were trying to accomplish.

Even though the newest solution to get rid of cellulite sounds a little strange, women who are looking for an easy answer to correct this situation are so desperate they are willing to try anything. This new connection is not similar to drinking coffee to try and make your cellulite disappear. It is a new application of coffee to remedy the embarrassing condition of cellulite. This is the topical use of coffee grounds to increase the blood flow in the skin for an extended time period. Some women are mixing the grounds with olive oil to make it easier to apply and then wrapping in plastic wrap. This might have to be done often but some women swear that it works.

Porcelain Veneers vs. Cosmetic Veneers

If you are ready for a dental veneer, one of the most important discussions you can have with your cosmetic dentist is the type of veneer to use. There are two primary materials used in creating a veneer: porcelain and composite materials. Factors such as cost and time spent in having them implanted are things that must be considered when making a decision on which type of veneer to use.

Porcelain veneers are far more durable than composite veneers, lasting 15 years or more while a composite veneer might only last five years. However, a porcelain veneer can be three times more expensive per tooth than a composite veneer, making cost a significant consideration. On the plus side, a porcelain veneer is much easier to clean and resistant to staining; however, implanting porcelain veneers is a multiple-step process that involves sending dental impressions to a lab while composite veneers can be created by the dentist and installed in the same session.
