Public vs. Private School

Are you considering sending your son or daughter to one of the many independent schools in New York City, such as York Preparatory School? The debate over the merits of public versus private education is one that many parents go through. There are plenty of benefits to choosing private sector schooling for your child, particularly if he or she hasn’t exactly had positive experiences attending the public New York City middle schools or high schools in your area. Whether your student can benefit from a specialized curriculum or would be better off in smaller classes where a thirst for knowledge can receive the individual attention it needs, you’ll find that New York private schools like York Prep have a lot to offer students.

One of the problems that many parents have with public schools is that there is a general curriculum designed for all students, mandated by the state in which the school is located and generally enforced via standardized testing. A common complaint of parents that leads them to consider the benefits offered by private high schools in New York is that the public school curriculum focuses less on preparing students for college and more on preparing them to pass the standardized tests that they will be required to take. While there are some private high schools in New York that choose to use standardized testing, many offer unique curriculums that include the use of art or extended field trips. With unique systems of assessment along with specially designed curriculums, York Preparatory School and other private institutions can give children the bright future they deserve.
