More Than A Number

If you have not started on your baby registry as of yet, take these items into consideration. These are must-have ‘green’ items on your list.

1. BPA-free feeding bottles – BPA stands for Bisphenol-A, which should not be in your baby’s feeding bottle. The same goes for Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and Phthalates, which are found mainly in plastic. You might also want to consider using glass feeding bottles.

2. Organic skincare for mom and baby – ensure that the products you choose do not include parabens-petro-chemicals which are responsible for a variety of skin and health issues. Choose products which use natural ingredients.

3. Organic cotton clothing – the clothing you choose for your baby should have a good blend of organic cotton or soy. You can find a variety of styles to make your baby look good.

4. Cloth diapers – look for the new and improved cloth diapers which come complete with Snaps or Velcro. Make the switch from disposable diapers to cloth diapers – think of how much you will be helping the environment, not to mention that is the healthier option for your baby.

5. Eco-friendly diaper bags – choose a diaper bag made from recycled materials. You get them in many styles from slide tote to gondola and even messenger.

6. Organic crib mattresses – these mattresses do not contain any chemically treated materials like plasticizers and fire retardants, which mean they are safer for your baby.

7. Organic crib sheets – like the mattress, ensure that crib sheets are also made from organic materials.

8. Organic cotton towels and bath products – switch to organic cotton towels, robes, wash cloths and even organic baby shampoos and lotions.

9. Organic baby carriers – the baby carrier should also be made using organic and eco-friendly materials.

10. Eco-friendly toys – this is a no-brainer. Babies usually put everything in their mouths, therefore, their toys should be made out of organic cotton fabric, eco-friendly wood and BPA-free plastics.
