Valentines Day Ideas

As Oscar Wilde put it so deftly, “Women are meant to be loved, not understood”. This is quite the quandary for today’s modern male who finds jumping through hoops more as constructive as coming to terms in understanding a woman’s emotions that could be compared both figuratively and literally to a roller-coaster ride.

And even though, John Lennon said, “Love is all you need”, the truth really is that men find it hard enough to be original, thoughtful and spontaneous even if it is for one day in the year that is dedicated to love of the romantic kind – Valentine’s Day.

Women, on the other hand as a general rule, always manage to pull it off while men procrastinate until the last minute, and manage to pull it off with a gift that they ‘ended up with’, rather than following a premeditated plan.

So you have two options really: Blame your inability to do something special for your woman on the hunter-gatherer theory or get off your butt and do something about it. But just for the rookie in all of us, here are a few ideas that could just ‘save the day’:

1. Instead of buying a card, why not make a card on your own?
2. Write poetry (or at least try it) trying to be both funny and romantic
3. A bouquet of red roses is a must on this day
4. Make a music CD for your girlfriend/ wife filled with her ‘favorite’ songs
5. A long drive and romantic dinner always seems to do the trick on V-Day.
